Animal testing and animal welfare

Summary of the issue

European law requires that animals are used in assessments to ensure the safety of pesticides to humans and the environment. When appropriate, computer simulations and test tube methods are employed and have helped reduced reliance on animal testing.

Why it’s important

ECPA advocates for minimal and responsible animal testing, using alternative research and testing methods where possible. ECPA is a member of the European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing, (EPAA) and we’re committed to requiring the minimum number of animals, treating them appropriately and responsibly, and using alternative research and testing methods whenever feasible.
